Hi friend! I hope you are having a great week!
In today's episode, I talk through 5 quick steps that can be helpful when we have anxious or intrusive thoughts. Flashes of anxiety and the thoughts that come with it can be so frustrating to deal with at times! But you don't have to be a victim of those thoughts or that anxiety.
Also, I talk about not using scripture against yourself if you struggle with anxiety. Anxiety is a very common human struggle, and God has so much compassion for us as we deal with it. Scriptures about not having anxiety or not having fear are there to encourage and empower us, not beat us down when we struggle.
Quote mentioned:
"The hardness of God is kinder than the softness of men, and His compulsion is our liberation." CS Lewis
God bless, and I'm cheering for you!

Hi friends!
Today I'm having a conversation with Ron Huxley LMFT. I'm so excited to share this guy with you!
He's been helping people heal from life's traumas (and dramas) for over 30 years. I know the word 'trauma' can feel complicated for some of us, and the reality is that BIG and little traumas affect us and those around us in ways we can't even imagine. This conversation is so helpful!
Ron is AMAZING and so full of compassion, wisdom, and grace!
We talk about so many things, but here are some of the highlights:
- Post Traumatic Growth- a newer concept to me that brings such hope to us all!
- EMDR, what is it? How does it work, and who needs it?
- What is trauma? And how it gets stored in our body at times.
- When dealing with trauma, Ron focuses on three healing strategies:
- Calm down the reactive brain and body.
- Increase the skills and understanding.
- Deepen connections with healthy people.
And sooo much more!
"Because of the Spirit that lives within us, the brain wants to move towards health. It's looking for opportunities for growth and change to heal itself.”—Ron Huxley
Check out Ron’s amazing resources at:

No matter what you walk through, you are not alone; there is help and hope for you! Be patient with yourself on your journey!
Much love,
Dani

Hi friend!
Today’s episode was inspired by Will Smith’s apology on Instagram this week to Chris Rock. We won’t get into all the details, but one thing he said was way too important not to share! And I think an essential life lesson we can all learn from, especially if you’ve ever struggled with mistakes or choices you’ve made in the past.
There’s a difference between taking responsibility for your actions and not allowing them to define you. When you allow these things to define who you are, the tendency is to fall into condemnation and shame, and it’s nearly impossible to heal and move forward.
Mentions:
Quote of the week: “The work I’m trying to do is, I am deeply remorseful, and I’m trying to be remorseful without being ashamed of myself.”—Will Smith.
Verse of the Week: Psalm 34:5 “Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.” & Psalm 34:8b “blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.”
Song of the week: “Whole Heart” By Hillsong // YouTube // Spotify // iTunes //
Also, I'd love for you to join me in a 6-week group coaching program that launches in September! Email hello@danisumner.com, and we will add you to the waitlist and send you more info about it next week.
I'm cheering for you!
Love you,
Dani

Hello, my friend!
Hopefully, this quick hack I use all the time will help get your head, and heart back moving in the right direction, no matter how unmotivated or overwhelmed you feel. He's with you! :)
Quote of the week:
"Procrastination is a crime, and it only leads to sorrow. I can stop at any time. I think I will tomorrow."
Carpe Diem means "Seize the day." But the more profound meaning is "to do everything you can do today to make tomorrow better."--I love that! I love that we have some control in making our tomorrow better.
Four quick steps I mention:
- I make my list of to-do's, to-don'ts, and my to-never do but that I need to get out of my brain.
- I say a simple prayer like, "Jesus show me the way."
- And then, I number my top 3 priorities on the "must do today" list.
- Then I get into action.
Getting into action trumps anxiety. And it can also help us move through seasons of depression or if we are in an over-thinking loop.
Song of the week(sometimes music is the best remedy!):
“When I’m with you” // YouTube // Spotify // iTunes //
"Fight song" // YouTube // Spotify // iTunes //
Inspiring Scripture:
Psalm 118:29
"So let's keep on giving our thanks to God., for he is so good! His constant, tender love lasts forever!"

Hi my friend!
Have you ever felt trapped in a situation? Or like you had no choice or way out? Some of us have lived through one or more pretty horrible experiences, and those experiences could have planted helplessness and hopelessness deep within our psyche.
"Learned Helplessness" is a condition discovered by Martin Seligman and Steve Maier and directly relates to our hopelessness levels.
The beauty of the human experience is our ability to endure trauma and drama. But more importantly, to heal and become wiser through it all.
There seems to be this season when the helpless/hopeless feelings are so much to bear that it's hard to see past the pain and believe that we'll feel better ever again.
Today we are diving into a study that illustrates how we are affected by helplessness and three tips to help us escape those hopeless and helpless feelings.
We have to be intentional to help ourselves come out of those feelings. Otherwise, they can lead us to more seasons of despair and depression. But there's hope! :)
If you'd like more info about a 1-on-1 coaching session with me OR if you need prayer, please send an email to hello@danisumner.com
Much love,
Dani

Hello my friend!
In today's episode we talk about 4 ways to figure out what could be making difficult moments harder to deal with, and 4 simple strategies to feel better in the moment.
H.A.L.T is an acronym popular in recovery groups to help when you're triggered and struggling with strong emotions and more importantly, what to do in that moment to get through it.
H.A.L.T stands for — H-Hungry. A-Angry. L-Lonely. T-Tired.
It’s a great tool that’s been around for decades!
Cheering for you.
Much love,
Dani

Hello my friend!
In Today’s episode I am talking with my dear friend Brandon Beard.
We dive into the topic of “Church hurt”. We know the complexities when it comes to being hurt by “the Church”. We get real, honest and raw about our own journeys as well.
If you have been hurt, I hope this episode blesses you and helps you know you are not alone.
There is hope to heal from those relationships and wounds. But man oh man, it can be a process…so be patient and kind with yourself as you journey through it.
You are going to LOVE Brandon! He’s the real deal (honest and hilarious!) and has been such a place of experiencing God’s Grace for me.
You can follow Brandon at Twitter: @brandon_beard Instagram: brandon_beard
Brandon has been a Pastor for over 30 years. For the past 11 years he has served as Executive Pastor of Campus Ministry at Compass Church, a multi site Church in the Dallas Forth Worth metroplex. Brandon is also a consultant for the Growmentum Group where he helps Churches and non profits find pathways to purpose, health, and growth. He is married to Irene, has two kids in college, serves on the Board of Children of the Nations in Northern Uganda, and cheers loud for all Seattle sports teams.
If you’ve been hurt and need prayer, or just need to be heard, feel free to send an email to hello@danisumner.com
Love you!
Dani

Hi friend!
In today's episode, I am having a conversation with my dear friend and coach Stef Gass from The Stefanie Gass Show. Stef is amazing! This episode was first aired on Stef’s show, but I felt it was an important conversation for you to hear as well.
We go deep into why and how shame can keep us stuck and not moving forward in some areas of our life. Shame and regret are huge underlying reasons that hold us back in life.
We both dive into our past a bit and how we can find healing from shame around traumatic things done to us, and the things we have done as well.
I pray this blesses you and that you know, no matter where you are right now in life—you are not alone and you will get through this season!

Hi my friend!
This week we have 2 back-to-back episodes. Both are with my coach and dear friend Stef Gass from The Stefanie Gass Show. Stef has been a guiding light for me with this Podcast journey, and she is one awesome real human being. She's been through so much in her own life and has much wisdom to share with all of us.
The episode coming out tomorrow--Episode 46, we dive deep into the things from our past that hold us back and how to walk with more freedom in our day to day life. That episode actually aired on her show a few weeks ago, but I felt like it was an important conversation for my people to hear as well. I'm so honest and vulnerable in that episode about specific things that held me captive for a very long time. I'm so grateful we can walk uninhibited in life and there's so much inner healing available to us all. You are not alone and remember, healing and finding that freedom can be such a journey and process.
In today's episode we dive into an aspect of our purpose and calling, and how to move forward with the things we long to do. Stef has a God given insight about her, that I know you'll love. :)
Wherever you are on your journey, I hope you find these episodes encouraging and helpful. You are not alone, and I am cheering for you.
So much love & gratitude,
Dani

Many of us deeply struggle with condemnation and being hard on ourself. I was so touched this week when John Ortberg talked on his Podcast about us living in a ‘culture of condemnation’—it got me thinking about why so many of us struggle with feelings of insecurity or are so hard on ourselves in general. I had never thought about how our culture influences us in that way. It was a light bulb moment for me as I process through exploring God’s non-condemning nature towards each of us. There’s hope, you and I are not sentenced to live under the tyranny of condemnation.
Quotes of the week:
“The hardest thing for people to understand about God is His non-condemning nature.”— Dallas Willard
“We live in a culture of condemnation”— John Ortberg
“Instead of condemning yourself. Bless yourself”—Dallas Willard.
Song of the week:
“When Death Was Arrested” North Point Worship // YouTube // Spotify // iTunes //
Inspiring Scripture:
Romans 8:1 “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus.”
